1 Bully Proof Your Kids
Unfortunately, bullying is a common occurrence among children today. Whether mentally/psychologically via social media, or physically, using bodily harm, bullying can cause your child to fear facing life’s challenges. Some kids don’t know how to defend themselves against the local bully. Statistically only 1 in 10 adults will step in and intervene, leaving your child navigating these waters basically alone.
Jiu Jitsu teaches your child not only how to defend themselves, but how to diffuse a situation, while remaining calm. Bullies do not mess with a child who knows Jiu Jitsu, period.
2 Stress Relief & Healthy Lifestyle
School work and family life is stressful. Children need a way to release as they are filled with so much energy. Jiu Jitsu provides an outlet for children to release their frustrations on the mat.
As fun as video games are, they don’t help children burn all those calories they’re consuming. Rather than being couch potatoes in front of the TV, stimulate your kids’ minds with Jiu Jitsu. While practicing Jiu Jitsu, your kids can actively burn calories and live a healthy lifestyle. Of course, don’t take the video games away from your kids, but allow Jiu Jitsu to provide balance in their lives.
3 Mutual Respect
Kids who train Jiu Jitsu come from all walks of life. Your children will learn about others’ culture, nationalities, and interests. Through understanding of each other’s backgrounds, your kids learn to respect differences and appreciate the ability to interact with and communicate with a broad range of people, on and off the Jiu Jitsu mats.
4 Humility
Jiu Jitsu teaches your child to be humble in his or her victories. Just because your child is better than someone else, this is no reason to brag. Rather, kids who train Jiu Jitsu are helpful towards others and are out there trying to show the others how to get better. Ultimately, your children will want to help other students improve so that everyone can grow as a unit. This is true humility.
5 Balance and Coordination
Jiu Jitsu gives your child an understanding of his or her body. They learn how to fall down and how to get up from a downed position, without hurting themselves. Through the physical training of Jiu Jitsu, your child will learn there’s more to body movement than just forward and backward, left and right, or up and down.
Jiu Jitsu will teach your child to be coordinated and balanced, which will translate to any physical activity s/he pursues in life.
6 Confidence
Through Jiu Jitsu, your child will learn to attack challenges with confidence. Not too many things are more draining than Jiu Jitsu, physically or mentally. Your child will learn that when presented with a problem, if they put enough thought, practice and time toward it, s/he can accomplish any problem or issue.
This type of high pressure problem solving will better equip your student to learn how to deal with what life throws at them.
7 Friendship
It’s inevitable- friendships are created on the Jiu Jitsu mats. Your kids are more confident when introducing themselves to new or visiting students. Jiu Jitsu teaches children how to approach the unknown. Kids in Jiu Jitsu are able to introduce themselves to others and find commonalities that spark friendships.
8 100% Effort, Daily
Some martial arts simply can’t be trained with 100% power, every day. Your child will go braindead with so many punches or kicks to the head.
Jiu Jitsu happens to be one of the few martial arts that can be practiced day in and day out, without major injury to the brain or body. One of the founders of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Helio Gracie, was an avid practitioner well into his 90’s.
9 Constant Progression
Sometimes, it’s a good idea to approach a problem from the bottom up, rather than the top down. Jiu Jitsu will help your child develop a strong base with which to add techniques and concepts to throughout your kids’ Jiu Jitsu journey. Should s/he venture into another martial art, the knowledge and experience gained from Jiu Jitsu will provide a solid backbone to begin and be effective in that art.
The learning never stops, and the particular art of Jiu Jitsu is a field of study that is constantly being refined or expanded on as new techniques are created, seemingly, on daily basis.
10 It’s Okay To Fail
Yes, it is okay to fail. We want our kids to know that failure is not the end, but a normal part of life. It’s what we do after we fail which defines us. In Jiu Jitsu, if your child loses a match, they can come back again and win the next match. If your child doesn’t understand a particular technique, it’s not the end of the world, but only part of the normal course of things. In this respect, jiu jitsu mimics life’s journey, and teaches your child that failure in life is just a catalyst for action, and as long as your child gives their best shot, progress will be made toward the ultimate goal.
Your child will thank you for introducing them to the fascinating martial art of Jiu Jitsu. Jiu Jitsu will better prepare them to face life’s challenges and deal with issues, friends and relationships.
Because of Jiu Jitsu, your child will be
more confident, and overall a happier person.
